View the Damariscotta Live Cam from Hopkins Hill

Nestled into mid-coast Maine's rocky coastline are the twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle. This is a region of long tidal rivers, pristine inland lakes and ponds and more than a 100 miles of wandering coastline just waiting to be discovered. The Flying Cloud B&B can be your home port as you navigate the many treasures the area has to offer. A pleasant 10 minute walk over the Damariscotta bridge will have you enjoying local shops, art galleries and restaurants. Located on the tidal Damariscotta River, the Flying Cloud has lovely views of the busy working water front. Pemiquid Point Lighthouse and Fort William Henry are 15 miles down the Pemiquid peninsula. Or if you prefer, travel on picturesque River Road 15 miles in the other direction to Boothbay Harbor and the beautiful new Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. If shopping is your "bag", it's a quick 35 minutes south to Freeport and L. L. Bean as well as the outlets. Looking for art? The Farnsworth Art Museum is in Rockland, 25 minutes north. Round Pond is home to the Library Art Studio and Peapod Jewelery, exquisitely designed and hand made jewelry by Ronna Lugosch. Monhegan Island is a summer mecca for artists and art galleries. The ferry leaves from New Harbor all summer to take you for a day trip to Monhegan Island with all its wonderful "artists in residence" as well as hiking trails with spectacular views of open ocean and islands. Speaking of New Harbor, Shaw's Lobster Pound is on the same wharf used by the Hardy Boats and serves succulent fresh lobster brought right to their dock. This area is rich in history-from the earliest settlement at Fort William Henry to the Old German Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and on to the Bath Maritime Museum or Owl's Head Transportation Museum you can experience a sense of our area's wonderful past.

We invite you to stay in our gracious 1840 Greek revival sea captain's home. From the casually elegant living room with triple hung floor to ceiling windows and warming fireplace to the serene screen porch overlooking the backyard and gardens, The Flying Cloud welcomes you. Enjoy your first cup of morning coffee on the front deck overlooking the Damariscotta River. Relax in the pine scented sea breezes as you plan your day in the mid-coast. Return in the evening to watch the sun set over the river before retiring to one of our five guest rooms. Spend time in our extensive library browsing our book lined shelves. Traveling with a laptop? We have just the spot for you with our high speed internet connection.

Each day begins with a full gourmet breakfast. In the summer months we serve on the screen porch overlooking our expanding gardens, busy with butterflies and hummingbirds. In cooler weather, breakfast is served in our elegant dining room. Enjoy the warmth and hospitality of new found friends while savoring the first meal of the day!

Welcome to The Flying Cloud B&B and classic mid-coast Maine. You'll want to return again and again.
